Now in its 15th year, DeVry's HerWorld program provides young women with the tools they need to prepare for college and to achieve their career aspirations.

Participating high schools included Miami Northwestern Senior High School, Hialeah Gardens Senior High, Miami Norland High, North Miami Senior High, Miami Senior High, North Miami Beach Senior High, Lanier-James Education Center, Miramar High, Hallandale High, Taravella High amd McArthur High.

During the event, high school students learned about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) career fields and were encouraged to reach their full potential.

Additionally, the students participated in a robotics workshop that provided a hands-on learning experience utilizing technology.

The young women also heard from U.S. Olympic soccer champion Mia Hamm, who shared an

inspirational story about the important role dedication and persistence played in following her dreams. Hamm was joined by U.S. Olympic kayaking hopeful Dr. Sarah E. Messiah, who provided advice for achieving education and career goals.

The South Florida event was one of more than 30 HerWorld programs taking place across the country as part of DeVry University's National HerWorld Month. The national initiative is hosted by DeVry educators to introduce young girls to women who have excelled in their fields, and help them gain inspiration toward their future endeavors.
