NEW YORK (AP) — Gap is teaming up with Zalando to sell its clothing and accessories on the European online retailer’s website, helping to expand its presence in the region.

Gap Inc., which is based in San Francisco, opened its first company-run international store in the U.K. in 1987. It now has 190 company-operated stores and 33 franchise locations in Europe. Gap’s own website currently ships to 24 European countries.

Gap has more than 1,700 company-run and franchised locations worldwide.

The companies announced Monday that Gap is going to have its own online shop within Zalando’s website. Gap products for men, women and children will be available. The items will be available starting in the summer of 2015.

Stefan Laban, senior vice president of international for Gap, said in a statement that the partnership will help Gap continue to grow its brand in European markets.

David Schneider, a Zalando’s management board member, said that the partnership with Gap allows it to increase the assortment of brands it offers customers.

Zalando’s currently has more than 1,500 international brands and serves Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Poland and the U.K.

Gap shares finished at $38.46 per share last week. They have fallen almost 7 percent over the past year.
