Open House for teachers

DAVIE—BrightStar Credit Union will host a free Teacher Open House on Thursday, Oct. 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Young At Art Museum, 751 SW 121 Ave. in Davie. Free for teachers, homeschool educators and PTA members and their families, there will be tours of the museum and educators will have the opportunity to learn about all that Young At Art Museum has to offer, including programs, school field trips and more.

Deerfield Beach hosting

community resource fairs

DEERFIELD—The City of Deerfield Beach is partnering with the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Small Business Administration to host a Community Resource Fair on Thursday, Oct. 1 at Oveta McKeithen Recreational Comples at 445 SW 2nd Street in Deerfield.

From 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., residents will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from participating organizations dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and helping small businesses start, expand and succeed. Resources will also be available to residents in need of job training, resume and job interview preparation, employment preparation for veterans and programs for young adults, ages 16 – 24.

The fair will be held at the Dr. Leo J. Robb Gymnasium and presentations will be conducted next door at Johnny Tigner Community Center.

Home Beautification Program available to Miami residents

MIAMI-DADE—Miami Dade residents residing in Districts 1 (Commissioner Barbara Jordan) or District 2 (Commissioner Audrey Edmonson) may qualify for The Home Beautification Program. The program provides eligible homeowners of single family homes the opportunity to have their house painted and/or yard landscaped at no cost. Qualified homeowners may receive up to $5,900 through a forgivable mortgage program to have the upgrades done on their home.

In order to qualify, the applicant must be the owner and occupant of a single family home (apartments, condos, and duplexes are not included). Investment properties are not eligible and the applicant’s property taxes must be current and in paid status.
