MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) _ State officials say the Alabama Legislature’s email system appears to have been hacked by an unknown source.

House Speaker Mike Hubbard revealed the problem in an announcement to the Alabama House on Thursday.

Hubbard instructed lawmakers to not open emails or attachments until the situation is resolved.

Alabama Office of Information Technology Deputy Secretary Cheri Martin says her department is helping the Legislature’s information technology group identify the problem.

Martin says the Legislature is a separate unit from other state agencies, and the problem seems isolated to the Legislature’s email system.

The state information technology office says it is still investigating.
