MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – On Saturday The Florida Memorial University Women’s soccer team traveled to the west coast of Florida to take on the ladies of Ava Maria University on its campus Soccer Field. The Lady Lions picked up a decisive 2-0 win over Ave Maria University giving FMU a 1and 2 record for the season.

The Lady Lions started the match with four shots in the first half. Florida Memorial’s Bianca Combe drew first blood in the 17th minute of the half. Ave Maria had several opportunities to score throughout the half but the Lions held them at bay. At the half, the Lions were up 1-0.

Florida Memorial’s Lovely Placide found the back of the net in the second half to take a 2-0 lead in the 72nd minute of the game. The Lions controlled the first half of the game with a 4-1 edge in shots and did not allow a goal in the second half. Maria Kecskemeti started the game as goalie for Florida Memorial and came away with the win, thanks in part to 2 saves in the afternoon. The Lions return to action Saturday (Sept. 17th) when they travel to Davie, FL to play Broward College at 5p.m.
