PHOTO COURTESY OF BLACKNEWS.COM PERSEVERANCE PAYS OFF: Iesha Champs is a mother of five who was formerly homeless who completed law school and recently passed the bar.

Houston, TX — Iesha Champs, the single mother whose inspiring story and graduation photo with her five kids went viral on social media about six months ago, is now a certified attorney. She recently passed the bar exam after graduating from law school with honors.

Champs shared the great news through a Facebook post. She said: “God allowed me to pass the bar exam!! Hallelujah God! All the glory belongs to You!!! Today God has ordained me: Attorney Ieshia N. Champs!!!!”

Champs graduated from Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University just earlier this year. She said she wouldn’t have been successful without her five children.

“From foster care to a high school dropout to jurist doctorate. I cannot believe it. The hardest part has been trying to maintain grades, maintain the information and then maintain trying to be a mother to my children,” she told Fox News.

Champs also shared a story behind her viral graduation photo that she said almost didn’t happen. She said, “I didn’t even want to participate in the photos, I was just that tired, I was like I wanted to sleep and my pastor at church said, ‘No, you need to take them. It will give you the energy that you needed.’”

There have been blessings that came after the photo was taken and shared widely. Aside from the public attention, Champs has also been noticed by Steve Harvey who featured her on his show and gave her a graduation present — a trip to Jamaica for her family with $10,000 pocket money.

Successfully overcoming the odds as a single mother to five kids and a law student, Champs is more than grateful to her family, her church, and God. She hopes she serves as an inspiration for others to go back to school.
