broward_center_web.jpgFORT LAUDERDALE — The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is accepting applications for the 2012-2013 Broward Center Teen Ambassador Program.

 

Local high school students attend performances and educational workshops at the Broward Center and provide information about their experiences to their peers through social networking.

Applications are available online and will be accepted through Sept. 14 by 5 p.m.  Applicants must be high school students in Broward County as of Aug. 22, attend and review at least one performance per month for which tickets will be provided by the Broward Center, attend one meeting per month at the Broward Center during the school year, maintain a minimum “B" average and have access to a computer and at least one social media account.  

The program will be held from October 2012 through May 2013 and is limited to 24 participants.  Each participant will receive a Broward Center Teen Ambassador I.D. badge and earn community service hours.

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is located in the Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District at 201 S.W. Fifth Ave., Fort Lauderdale.  

During the last school year, Broward Center Teen Ambassadors received an insider's view at an arts organization that is consistently ranked in the top 10 venues in the world.

Activities included working backstage with the crew of Disney’s Beauty and The Beast, participating in a dance workshop with the cast members of Step Afrika and seeing 34 performances from every genre including Broadway, ballet, opera and classical music.  Along the way, the students wrote in excess of 150 reviews and used social media including Facebook and Twitter to discuss their experiences with approximately 3,000 friends.
