MIAMI (AP) _ Thousands of Haitian Catholics are in Miami to observe the spiritual revival of Jericho.
For one week, parishioners and visitors at Notre Dame d'Haiti Mission will make a nightly walk around the church grounds to pray, evoking the Biblical story of the Israelites conquering the city of Jericho after marching around its walls for seven days.
The church's pastor says the Jericho revival is a spiritual exercise to ask God to relieve suffering.
The revival began Sunday with a Mass celebrated by Archbishop Thomas Wenski. It ends Saturday with a health fair at the Little Haiti church.
In the past, Haitian Catholics from Boston, New York and Haiti have joined the revival.
