verizon_phonebook_web_fc.jpgTALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Verizon's residential telephone customers in Florida won't be getting white pages directories for the next two years unless they ask for them.

The Public Service Commission on Tuesday agreed to let the company skip blanket directory distribution for the trial period.

The panel then will assess consumer reaction before deciding whether permanently revoke a requirement to deliver directories to all customers.

Those who still want one will be able to access the directory over the Internet or request a paper or CD-ROM version free of charge by calling a toll-free number.

The commission last year approved a similar experiment for AT&T and is still collecting customer feedback.
