The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards honoring the best in American prime time television programming will be held September 12, 2022 and amongst the list of talented nominees is three time Emmy award nominee Quinta Brunson. Brunson is a writer, producer, comedian, and actress. She is the first Black woman to be nominated for three Emmy awards for comedy in the same year for her self-created ABC sitcom television series Abbott Elementary. Her three Emmy nominations are for outstanding comedy series, outstanding lead actress in a comedy, and outstanding writing for a comedy series (for the “Pilot”). Brunson is also the youngest Black woman to earn an Emmy nomination in the comedy acting category.

The ABC television sitcom Abbott Elementary that Brunson has created and star in as lead actress takes place in Philadelphia at a predominantly Black underfunded public school. Her character is second-grade teacher Janine Teagues who has a goal to help the lives of her students.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA., Brunson started studying comedy in Chicago at the Second City (an improvisational comedy enterprise).

Her 2014 self-produced viral series “The Girl Who’s Never Been on a Nice Date” landed her a relationship with BuzzFeed Motion Pictures where she has worked as a producer for BuzzFeed Video. She has also developed two web streaming series with BuzzFeed Motion Pictures that she wrote, produced, and starred in. In 2017, Brunson earned a nomination for Best Acting in a Comedy at the Streamy Awards for her performance in her self-produced comedy ‘Broke’.

Brunson’s success in television has earned her a spot on Time 100 Most Influential People of 2022 list and a host of award nominations. She now develops shows in traditional and digital entertainment and performs stand up comedy around the country.
