MIAMI GARDENS —To help students in the Miami Gardens community have a successful beginning to the school year, Universal Truth Center for Better Living is holding a Back-2-Class Family Day Celebration for the public.

The Back-2-Class Family Day Celebration will be held 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22 at Universal Truth Center for Better Living, 21310 NW 37th Ave. in Miami Gardens.

The Center invites parents, guardians and all learners, preschool to adults, to a day of fun, inspiration, and learning.  The focus is on preparing students, parents and guardians for the return to learning through engaging and educational activities, and informative demos and presentations.  There will be LIVE/ONLINE conversations for teens on “How to be a Super Star Student; and for adults on the Better Living classes at Universal Truth Center.

All activities and events are age-appropriate for the preschool to adult learner.  Parents and guardians will receive tips to monitoring their child’s performance during the school year.  Students will receive books, grade appropriate school supplies, free tutoring vouchers, and much more to help them have a successful school year.

Get Scholarship Ready

MIAMI GARDENS — Get Scholarship Ready will be giving away free backpacks, school supplies and McDonald’s kids meals at its first Passport Back to School Extravaganza.

In addition, supporting sponsors such as TD Bank will be offering free youth savings accounts with a courtesy initial deposit, American Life Income will be disbursing free Child Safe Kits and Union Institute and University will be providing information to high school students and adult learners regarding the university’s bachelor and master’s degree programs.

Prayer Vigil

FORT LAUDERDALE — Rosalind Osgood, vice chair of the School Board of Broward County, will host a countywide back to school prayer vigil at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at Praise Tabernacle International, 1050 NW 43rd Ave. in Plantation.

The prayer vigil, billed as an evening of praise and prayer, will feature intercessory prayer for students, parents, and school and district staff members. The event will feature Sweet Anointing, the women’s ensemble of New Mount Olive Baptist Church, and its senior pastor, Dr. Marcus Davidson.
