Miami, FL – The honors continue for Language Arts teacher, Precious Symonette, from Miami Norland Senior High, the winner of the 2017 Francisco R. Walker Miami-Dade County Teacher of the Year. On March 12, she received the keys to a shiny new Scion, courtesy of Kendall Toyota.

“It feels surreal, said Symonette.  “It’s truly a humbling experience to be recognized with such an honor.” Miami-Dade County is the only district in Florida that honors its ‘Teachers of the Year’ with a new vehicle.

Symonette was announced as the winner of the Golden Apple Award on  Jan 28, 2016.

“It is always difficult to select one teacher for this honor when there are so many teachers who work so hard for our students.  Symonette clearly stands out because of her unwavering dedication to her students, “said UTD President Fedrick Ingram.  “United Teachers of Dade thanks Kendall Toyota for their strong support of our Teacher of the Year. “

“Kendall Toyota is pleased to partner with the United Teachers of Dade and to once again present the Miami-Dade County Teacher of the Year with a new car,” said Kendall Toyota General Manager Frank Marsala.  “This is a token of our appreciation for the hard work and dedication teachers give our students each and every day.  We congratulate Precious Symonette, and all the Teacher of The Year finalists.”

Symonette has also been chosen to participate in the National Education Association  (NEA) “Superhero Educator” Video Series which will highlight one educator from each state each month from June through August 2016.
