Week is celebrating everything green about Miami-Dade

MIAMI — During Miami-Dade Green Week, April 16-22, employees and residents will be able to celebrate Earth Day, April 22 and discover everything green that the county has to offer with many events taking place at the Stephen P. Clark Center (SPCC), 111 N.W. First St., in Miami.

Highlights of the lineup of things to do include showerhead and light bulb exchanges, sustainable technologies demonstrations and hybrid vehicle displays. The week will culminate with Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez honoring the first certified Miami-Dade Green Business, the 30th anniversary of Baynanza, and Environmental Villages at Miami-Dade’s Home Chemical Collection Centers.

The Miami-Dade Green Week schedule includes:

Thursday, April 19 — Recycling Day

10 a.m.-2 p.m.:   Hybrid Truck Display, SPCC Westside
10 a.m.-2 p.m.:   Play the "Wheel of Trash or Treasure" testing your solid waste and recycling knowledge
10 a.m.-2 p.m.:   View solid waste and recycling operations in action on the small screen
2-4 p.m.:  Lightbulb & showerhead exchange, SPCC Lobby
2-4 p.m.:   Sign-up for $750 Savings Challenge & submit a Green Deed, SPCC Lobby

Friday, April 20 — Healthy Living Day

8 a.m.:   Employee Ride Bike to Work Day
9 a.m.-noon:   Million Trees Miami, SPCC Lobby
9 a.m.-noon:   WII Fitness Demonstration, SPCC Lobby
9 a.m.-noon:   Lightbulb & showerhead exchange, SPCC Lobby
