tesla.jpgDENVER (AP) _ Public electric vehicle charging stations to help cut down on pollution in Colorado may not be cheap or free for long.

Industry officials tell the Denver Post that the high cost of installing recharging stations and the rising cost of electricity may force 27 of Colorado's mostly free recharging stations to start raising prices to cover their costs.

Colorado has more than 1,100 registered all-electric vehicles and more than 35,000 electric gas hybrids. Drivers can recharge their vehicles for $1 an hour in Boulder, and there is no extra charge for plugging in at a parking lot near Denver International Airport.
