TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ A special committee that will pick Florida's presidential primary date is delaying its decision for a week. The panel of six current and former legislators, ex-Gov. Bob Martinez and a top aide to Gov. Rick Scott met Friday in Tallahassee.
It will meet again next Friday, a day before states must submit their dates to party leaders.
Many of Florida's Republican political leaders are pushing for a date making Florida the fifth state to hold a primary next year.
That means it would have to be prior to Arizona's Feb. 28 primary and possibly earlier.
Arizona's date breaks Republican National Committee rules, and so would an earlier date in Florida.
The GOP wants no primaries or caucuses held before March 6 except for Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina.
