ivan smith_web.jpgFlorida Career College recently appointed Plantation resident Ivan Smith program director for its School of Technical Trades, which will offer programs in residential and commercial HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) service and repair.

New to Florida Career College, the HVAC program will be offered at the college’s Margate campus, its 10th and newest, with classes scheduled to begin in April.  The Pembroke Pines campus will offer the program beginning in June.

As part of curriculum development and growth, Smith, who will oversee the HVAC program at all campuses, will manage its implementation and train and oversee instructors at the school.

“This is a tremendous career opportunity for people looking to join the work force or change careers, as we have developed a program that provides real hands-on training for our students,” Smith said.  “HVAC is a field in high demand, especially with all of the new EPA guidelines and the new skill sets now required to work with greener, more eco-friendly equipment.”

Smith brings to the position 14 years of education experience.  Prior to joining FCC, he was responsible for the development of the Pueblo, Colo. branch campus of IntelliTec College, from facility construction to the start of classes, and then served as the campus director.  He also worked with the Accrediting Commission, responsible for visiting schools to ensure compliance with state regulation of the Accrediting Commission of Career College and Schools.

Smith holds a bachelor's in management and a master's in education in instruction and curriculum writing from Colorado Christian University in Colorado Springs.  He is a member of Air Conditioning Contractors of America.
