The 16th annual ManPower Conference wrapped up Aug. 28 at the Convention Center. The conference was launched by Bishop T.D. Jakes, senior pastor of The Potter's House, a 30,000-member megachurch with congregations in Dallas and Fort Worth.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that the men-only event was designed to show men how to build strong marriages, increase self-confidence and take on community responsibilities.

A first-time event at this year's conference was a health fair designed to raise awareness about medical issues that affect a high percentage of African-American and Hispanic men. Volunteers provided blood pressure and cholesterol checks and free screenings.
