WASHINGTON (AP) – Students at Howard University are protesting on campus and on social media about problems with housing, financial aid, registration and the condition of university buildings.
The historically black university in Washington has been struggling financially. Its credit rating has been downgraded three times in the past three years, and employees have been laid off.
According to The Washington Post, some students say they’re not getting their financial aid quickly enough to register for classes for the fall semester.
University administrators were quick to respond to the complaints on Friday. President Wayne A.I. Frederick met with students. The administration set up a temporary help center staffed with volunteers and worked to resolve financial aid glitches.
