Haridopolos said Monday that none of the current GOP candidates can defeat U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla. Haridopolos had mounted his own bid against Nelson, but he abruptly ended his campaign last month.

The Lakeland Ledger reported that Haridopolos told a Polk County political club he hopes Bush will change his mind and run. He said that if Bush won't run then West should. Haridopolos called West, a favorite among tea party activists, a “political rock star.''

Current GOP candidates challenging Nelson include former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, former State House Majority Leader Adam Hasner, retired U.S. Army Col. Mike McCalister and former steakhouse executive Craig Miller.
