Lewis joined FMU in 2011, after serving 15 years as dean of the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

“It feels absolutely fantastic to move into a leadership role at a major university like Florida Memorial,” said Lewis. “One of my goals was to become a university president and this opportunity at Florida Memorial University allowed me to realize that goal.”

After 12 months as FMU’s president, Lewis has successfully opened four state-of-the-art residential facilities; issued all students netbook computers; and brokered articulation agreements with institutions in Ghana, Senegal and Russia.

For Lewis, the job of a university chief is never finished. The president who works tirelessly expects the same from his students.

“When we began a national search for a new president, we were looking for transformative leadership that could help us move this university to the next level,” said Charles George, chairman of the FMU Board of Trustees. “He is the right leader for this moment in Florida Memorial’s history.”
